How cool is your employer about letting you use Web 2.0 apps for work information?

I could set up a free, password-protected PeanutButterWiki in 5 minutes to update and share (to trusted colleagues) work information in nearly real time. Or I could submit a work order the IT department to update information on the company website and wait for them to respond, if they do. I could collaborate via a 37 Signals WriteBoard or muddle through a collaboration with scattered internal emails. There are a lot of easy Web 2.0 solutions at my disposal, but will enterprise cotton to them? Your experiences? 2 Comments

I really don't think so. Too much liability for corporate data to fall into someone else's hands so the corporate security people won't allow it. Same reason you can't access webmail and IM from the office. »
BasecampSubmitted by Mekkaniak on May 30, 2006 - 3:32am.
I intend to use Basecamp for coordinating projects that we run together with external consultants. However, I would not use an external W2.0 service for 100% internal use because of the sensitivity of the information and risk of loosing data. That said, I would love to have an internal installation of Basecamp. It would run circles around anything that the IT dept. can provide. »
