Quicksilver B30 introduces triggers and content searching
Merlin Mann | Sep 19 2004
Quicksilver - Beta 30 release
Triggers allow you to assign a global key to any command-series that Quicksilver can do. So all those things you’ve been doing in the Quicksilver pane? Now you can do them from anywhere—without explicitly invoking the QS panes. I’ll let your mind boggle on that for a moment. Search contents is a slick kind of “meta-Quicksilver” that lets you localize your search to any collection of items in your catalog (think: find song by titles in iTunes; search just John’s contact info). Combined, these two features allow you a new level of access, control, and granularity in how Quicksilver fits into your Mac’s workflow. With features like these, I think it’s clear that Quicksilver is moving well beyond its modest roots as an application launcher. As I said in an email the other day, calling Quicksilver “just an application launcher” is a little like calling the Ten Commandments “two stones some dude found on a hill.” 7 Comments

I was using iKey, to enter Quicksilvers Text-Edit Mode directly (Apple-Dot expands to Apple-Space >> Dot). Doing GTD with your Quicksilver Append to File trick is alot easier. Thanks for finally making me switch from Launchbar to Quicksilver. »

Heh, I’ve been one of the “elite” and had alpha mode enabled, so I’ve been using triggers + search contents since.. B26? Anyway, it’s absolutely great being able to just hit F9 and search my iTunes artists right from there. »

A9 and ‘the Wright brothers phase of search technology’ Much lately about search engines. A9, newly emerged from beta, has been summarised by Lance Arthur, posting at glassdog, as: depth of search (Yahoo) more meaningful results (Google) personalisation (A9). As Lance notes, A9 also enables you to »
