You know that feeling that’s a cross between “Oh god, someone did this thing first,” and “hey, wow, now I don’t have to reinvent the wheel!” that transitions into “I could do better than that,” although you’re still kicking yourself?

Moleskine also makes an accordian pleat folder with the usual moleskine flap closure. It doesn’t fold out like the pendaflex, though.

That’s spooky … I was this close to abandoning my card-based hack and slipping back into the uneasy void of GTD system tweaking. Now I can give the cards (which are very satisfying in so many ways) another week or two.

I figure there’s got to be something like this at Target …

I especially like the way this item integrates order into a person’s hanging wardrobe — pants, shirts, jackets, index cards, etc.

I use a Moleskine accordian folder for my cards, but the folder is already full-thickness because of the bulky accordian pleats. Put more than ten cards in it and it doesn’t close nicely.

I’m thinking about doing some surgery on it and removing all of the interior dividers and the pleats that go with them. Boil it down to just one compartment and one pleat and I ought to be able to get a lot more cards in there, and I can use colored cards for divisions if I need them.

I already own one of those. Picked it up at Target.

I’m not on the GTD bandwagon yet, but I figured I’d look for this since I’m thinking of starting.

I didn’t see the CD holder at a local store, but I did see a plastic coupon holder which seemed perfectly sized for index cards. It even had empty tabs you could slide labels into.

So there’s a good super-cheap alternative.

Those of you who live in NYC, SF or wherever there’s a Kinokuniya or similar store, go check the stationery section. I have a top notch index card wallet (a high quality version of the plastic coupon holder) I bought years ago, still in wonderful condition. Japanese stationery is great. I live in Madrid, now, and that’s one of the things I miss.

I like to go to art stores for storage solutions — not only can you find interesting things (sometimes a lot cheaper than office supply stores) — you can find attractive solutions that look nice on your desk.
