”What’s 43 Folders?”
43Folders.com is Merlin Mann’s website about finding the time and attention to do your best creative work.

Say hi to MoleskineUS

Short version

I’m pleased to announce that MoleskineUS is our new partner for Moleskine notebooks.

Long version

A better experience for you

img of a case of MoleskinesIt’s no secret (I hope) that, like a lot of site owners, I use Amazon Associates links to relevant products as a way to defray the costs of operating and maintaining 43 Folders. In general I’ve been extremely satisfied with Amazon’s service, selection, and prices. I mean, you know: they’re Amazon.

Unfortunately, I’ve never been enthused with the third-party Amazon vendor to whom I’ve linked in the past to get credit for Moleskine purchases. Some of you, it should be noted, have been understandably vocal in sharing this lack of enthusiasm via comments and emails. Frankly it’s been a bit embarrassing that the vendor’s presentation is so lame and that their delivery window can be as long as two weeks. Yuck. So, sorry ‘bout that.

The good news is that I’ve been talking to the very swell folks at MoleskineUS about working together, and it’s looking like it will work out swimmingly. Friday began a 30-day trial period at the end of which we can both decide if we like the performance, terms, etc. So, there you go.

Extra content and news

In addition to providing a much better selection and improved service, the MoleskineUS site has a bunch of cool sections that might appeal to you nerds.

  1. History of the Moleskine
  2. Stories from users (I especially like Leslie Whalley’s artsy use of the book)
  3. Overview of the Moleskine’s design and the different models that are available

Additionally, I’m assured that there will be some top secret inside dope and news about Moleskines coming our way from time to time from the MoleskineUS folks.

Supporting 43 Folders

I suppose I’m mentioning all this, in part, for my own selfish reasons; it never hurts to remind folks that they can help support the site’s development by purchasing items from our partner and affiliate links. (I try to only link to stuff in ways that are both useful and unobtrusive, but, yeah, it actually does help a lot when you choose to purchase stuff you need anyhow via our links.)

People do frequently ask how they can contribute or donate to the site, and while I’m reluctant to always point them at PayPal, I do feel comfortable saying: if there’s stuff you’d pick up anyhow at Amazon or MoleskineUS, it’s nice when you can do it through us. For what it’s worth.

Done dunning. If you have question or concerns, you can leave comments here or email me any time. So, thanks, and I hope this change is a happy one for you guys, too.

I'm sure this will all...

I’m sure this will all be for the good. Perhaps MoleskineUS can explain why the width of the elastic band (on the smaller notebooks, at least) has become noticeably narrower. Great site…keep it up!!

Alas, they don't appear to...

Alas, they don’t appear to ship to Canada.

I like the Moleskine I bought a couple of weeks ago at a store…was hoping to find a place to buy other books (like the music notebooks) that the store didn’t carry. Oh, well.

Scott: Where are you in...

Scott: Where are you in Canada? If you’re in Toronto, look for “Write Impressions[1].” The one 4 block from me has all forms of Moleskine. If you’re downtown, try Laywine’s. [2]

I have purchased several Moleskines...

I have purchased several Moleskines from MoleskineUS. I cannot tell you how fast my purchases have appeared in my mailbox. I will continue to do business with them and hope that all of you out there will give them a try.

I can second Matthew's endorsement....

I can second Matthew’s endorsement. MoleskineUS is really fast, and they appear to have the full line ready to ship out.

Thanks for the new source....

Thanks for the new source. I placed an order with them already, the Amazon source was sloooow. I feel giddy because I bought the 12 pack. ‘Pair and a spare’ is my motto!

And don’t feel sheepish about shilling for worthwhile products. We all need to buy stuff, and you have a great, useful, intelligent site here. You should be rewarded a little for good work. Then again Krishna asked that we not aspire for the fruits of our labor. :)

Thanks, everybody. Great comments and...

Thanks, everybody. Great comments and glad to hear it was a good decision.

@John. Many thanks for the case purchase! But if only I could convince my landlord to embrace the teachings of Krishna on my behalf. ;-)

Darn. I bought my first Moleskine...

Darn.

I bought my first Moleskine last week directly from MoleskineUS. I’ll make sure my future purchases are through 43folders. :)

I have to say that, I too was really impressed by MoleskineUS. My book got here so fast, you’d have thought the place was just down the street. Their site is wonderful, too. Great presentation, and excellent information. I really think it helped me in my decision. Their prices seem to be the best, too, at about $1.00 less than most other online stores I’ve seen.

I'm fairly new to 43folders...

I’m fairly new to 43folders (and San Francisco!). I’m ready to make a Moleskine purchase. What is the process I should use, so that 43folders gets credit? Its not obvious to my eyes. Just click on the link from this site?

Hey, Gerry. You rock. If you...

Hey, Gerry. You rock.

If you want to buy online, you can just visit the MoleskineUS site from any of these links, like this and then shop and checkout like you normally would. Thanks for asking.

If you want to pick one up today in SF, try Flax @ Market and Valencia or Cliff’s Variety on Castro near 18th. They usually have them at Stacey’s on Market near Montgomery and Patrick & Co. right across the street, but (nerd that I am) I know that they’re both low on stock right now. :)

Very kind of you to ask. Many thanks.
