New model: Moleskine Reporter Notebooks

Moleskine Reporter Notebooks, MoleskineUS

Drool. Spanking new Moleskine reporter notebooks look really nice. Can’t wait to pick one up for myself.

Looks like they’re very similar to the old-school classic Moleskine, but with the flippable top-binding and a vertically-oriented accordion pocket. The immediate improvement I can see would be for writing in cramped places—like the top of your thigh while riding the bus. I wonder if the binding allows it to flip over completely without damaging the spine.

Anxious to hear what other folks think of these. Anyone tried them yet?

I went the Moleskine route...

I went the Moleskine route for a while, but dammit, those things hurt to sit on. I sought and found a much more arse-friendly option: the Leeds jotter. Very hard to find online, usually besmirched with corporate schwag logo nonsense...but easy to find, in smirchless soft pleather, at Irving Variety or Sunset Stationers next door. [yikes - wondering if this is a very foolish thing to do, revealing my supplier here!]

With the little side loop that affixes the space pen and interior pockets for biz cards, etc. Most key: the paper comes in replaceable, perforated pad form, at $1 per pad. So instead of buying a whole new journal, when you fill up a pad, just date-label it, slide it out and slide a fresh one in. And sit on it.
