”What’s 43 Folders?”
43Folders.com is Merlin Mann’s website about finding the time and attention to do your best creative work.

43 Folders Wiki

The long-promised 43 Folders Wiki is finally up and running at http://wiki.43folders.com/. W00t.

With the help of a few intrepid barn raisers, we’ve started slapping together the beginnings of what I know will become a fascinating adjunct to the main site and our 1,600-strong Google Group.

It’s yours to contribute to and to edit as you see fit. As with the mothership, though, I do ask everyone’s help in respecting the Mac-centric focus of the site (that means no drive-by Windows spam, please). Apart from that, go nuts. Well, maybe not nuts exactly, but please consider doing what you can to help tend our little information garden.

You can use the discussion area of each page or leave comments here. Thanks to everyone for pitching in, and welcome aboard!

Update 2005-03-24 09:13:18: I’m pleased to note that “The Rules” have been wildly re-jiggered to remove any restrictions on content based on platform.

While I unapologetically stand by my desire to keep the 43 Folders blog focused on the needs of Mac users, there’s absolutely no reason to try and social-engineer a community site like our wiki. I trust our visitors implicitly to do good work and to make smart decisions; it is they who should decide what works and what doesn't. And based on the amazing progress they've made over just 4 or so days, I’m more confident than ever that the wiki will grow into a resource that benefits people far beyond the focus I'll continue to hold here on the mothership.

Thanks to the many amazing contributors and to everyone who’s shared their opinion on how best to build a site that works for as many people as possible.

Rather than a separate, PC-user...

Rather than a separate, PC-user ghetto, why not just have a sandbox where you can provide links to wikis that do service our windows-and-linux using brethren? Or an agreed-on practice where, for example, if I wanted to point out a windows counterpart to Quicksilver (i.e., AppRocket), I could footnote an outside link?

It is good, to have a place to share the mac geek love, and the goal of keeping that goodness is one I can get behind. Where to draw the line properly, however, is a good question.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
