iTunes' built-in podcasting; revisiting public radio podcasts and RSS feeds
Merlin Mann | Jun 28 2005
Perhaps this is also a good day to revisit our links to indices of non-commercial and public radio podcasts. If you haven’t visited yet, it’s basically a meta-index I’ve been building of places that point to podcasts from NPR, PRI, the BBC, and regional stations, so there’s tons of good stuff in there. PublicRadioFan.com’s podcast directory is still my favorite, just because I love the larger PRF site, which includes detailed listings of “what’s on now” that should be a regular stop if you enjoy public radio. Remember, also, that NPR has handy RSS feeds of their upcoming show listings. Learn who’s coming up on Fresh Air and ATC early on and right in your favorite reader. FWIW, the “Podcasts” genre on the iTunes Music Store (iTMS) is very rich. Their Top Ten Podcasts are (currently):
I suspect this will settle down a little bit as more and more people start downloading. (For instance, when I looked this morning, ESPN Radio was #1.) They also have a nice breakdown by category (Sports, Comedy, Science, News, Movies & Television, etc.) IMHO, it’s well worth a look (and of course, it’s all free.) » POSTED IN:

I always thought “podcasts” were silly until I understood it was just Tivo for radio. Personally, I don’t care to hear Joe ‘Merica’s thoughts on anything, but the NPR shows interest me. Sadly, I was a founding engineer waaay back in the 1999 dot-com days of a company that created tools and hosted services for web-based amateur “radio” talkshows: Wonderhorse. RIP. » POSTED IN:
