Interview with a Lifehacker: Merlin Mann - Lifehacker

Last Friday, Lifehacker guest editor Matt Haughey was kind enough to do an email interview with me. It's mostly about Getting Things Done, but I was pleased to be able to sneak in something I've been meaning to call out more formally here on the site.

There’s another modest change that I actually struggle not to yak about constantly on the site (since it really cheeses off the “How can I put my pants on faster?!?” crowd). But I’ve really focused my time over the past few months on learning and trying to practice mindfulness in my everyday stuff. I’m absolutely the worst buffet Buddhist ever, but at least I’m aware of that. Which apparently counts for something...

For what it’s worth I’m also considering a small side career as a “dharma lawyer,” helping other new and struggling practitioners to find loopholes in the five precepts. Should be a pretty sweet gig.

Keep an eye out over the coming weeks for more wide-ranging features including an ongoing look at mindfulness, how it can improve your concentration and productivity, as well as the fascinating ways that sundry disciplines are applying it to combat things like depression, OCD, and attention problems.

This is something I'm very excited about digging in to, and, in talking with readers over the past month or so, I get the feeling it's something many of you might find interesting as well. Here's hoping.

Thanks to Matt and to Lifehacker for the bully pulpit.

Cranking

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
