Open Thread: the iPhone, Apple TV, Steve's other announcements?

Apple - QuickTime - Macworld 2007 Keynote

Apple - iPhone

Wow. Everyone here in the MacBreak war room is still perspiring as we let it all sink in. OS X. On your phone. Damn.

So what do you guys think about Steve's announcements? What surprised you? What else do you wish you'd heard? What do you think it will mean to have running OS X on your mobile phone?

I was excited by the...

I was excited by the AppleTV and iPhone. But as a Canadian resident I realized the AppleTV is just about useless as ITunes Canada doesn't sell movies.

The other disappointment was that AppleTV doesn't include a DVD player. Worse, iTunes doesn't rip DVDs (yes I know there are other ways to get around this...but you get my point).

Unlike the iPhone, AppleTV doesn't support convergence and requires I hook up yet another device to my TV.

Without any way to deliver video to Apple TV, I can't figure out why they are selling AppleTV in Canada.

As for iPhone...it will be of limited value for Rogers customers unless they adopt an unlimited data rate like Cingular has in the US. Still, the Wifi alone will be a big improvement.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
