Definitely interested in seeing how folks are using Stikkit for GTD. Can’t get my head around it (GTD-wise) when compared to Remember The Milk.

Awesome, Merlin. I’ve just started using stikkit + quicksilver and I’m really impressed. We need some tips from you ASAP (pretty please)! Your brain must be whirring (or have already whirred) with stikkit + quicksliver + gCal + iCal integration… should be some cool things to do here.

Well, maybe you can give me some tips that will help me figure out how to use Stikkit. I’m getting this feeling that I just can’t get a handle on all the syntax without putting more brain power into learning it than I feel comfortable with.

I LOVE Stikkit! Usually I play around with applications like this but never actually use them. Stikkit is the one tool I use consistently, for bookmarks, contacts, notes, etc.

Man, I like the look of Stikkit, but I just can’t get my head around it. Something tells me I’m over-complicating it, so some more examples would be wonderful!

At first, I was quite reluctant to try yet another cool new GTD-type tool. But after a few minutes, I think I’m in love. I just hope that more functionality is added, like exporting addresses—sorry, PEEPS—or groups my peeps. By the way, I love the use of the word ‘peep’; it’s so relaxed and informal. Why do we take things so seriosly? One thing I dislike about a lot of tools for implementing GTD is their rigidity. This seemed to be in that class until I’d played around for a few minutes. Oh, I need to add a phone number to my address book? Ctrl+N, “peep: firstname lastname (new line) mobile phone: 555-555-5555”, Ctrl+S. That’s it, and it knows that it’s a “peep.” I think this has a lot of potential, and I hope I’m still using it a month from now.

I have the same question I always have with these sort of services: Does it store my data locally, in a (more or less) standard format? In other words, is my data still available in a useful form if Stikkit goes belly-up? Call me paranoid, but I just don’t trust my data to someone else’s server or nonstandard formats.

I think it’s interesting, but it’s definitely beta software for me- the hoops that I have to jump through to get things to process as tasks or contacts, or to link things correctly is just way too much maintenance for me. And I appear not to be the only one who is unable to import my address book

That said, once it really does get going, it’s really gonna be something- the way it can create outlines (my natural way of thinking) that go right into to dos and match up with the contacts and the calendar and links etc.

We spend an inordinate amount of effort to make sure that what you took the time to type is preserved. While Stikkit turns your “meet sally at 4pm tomorrow” into a to-do and an event, it still keeps that original “meet sally at 4pm tomorrow” text for you as if you’d just jotted it down in a text editor.

And between our Atom feeds (you can subscribe to your Stikkits from a standard RSS reader) and various other output formats (iCal, vCard, json, and of course plain text), you can always grab your Stikkits at any time. (The plain text version even formats your stikkits as a string of stikkits separated by form-feed characters… nothing is removed, only clearly demarcated annotations added whenever absolutely necessary.)

Ha you brought stikkit down!

I haven’t managed to figure out how I can replace Backpack with Stikkit yet. I’m a little depressed that I’m rather invested in Backpack.

On the other hand, I like having a service I pay for, with SSL, to give me some degree of security. I don’t have any expectation of Stikkit sticking (heh) around at the moment. What-ifing is my favorite hobby, what can I say.

1-Quicksilver plug-in, to automatically append a new to do, or upcoming event to my stikkit; quick, efficient and productive.

2-When sync kGTD it syncs with stikkit; so that if for some reason I can’t get on my Laptop but can on some other computer, I can see all my to dos, etc on the web.

Now, could we get some sort of mobile version of Stikkit (PDA, Smartphone, etc.) so it would be useful when we’re not tied down to our computers??

Not sure how I’ll use it, but I know I will because it’s just FRICKIN’ COOL!

I am thinking that there must be some cool way to integrate jott.com with stikkit. Imagine pickup up your phone, call the jott number, record yourself a message, “Call bob at 4 pm tomorrow”. Then Jott transcribes it, emails it to your preassigned stikkit email account, stikkit then pulls out the peeps, todos and events.

Voila, voice controlled planning. In theory.

I see that this has a lot of potential. The integration of email, calendar and stickkits are a big feature. But, it is not quite there for me yet.

I am using the d3 GTD System, Gmail and Gcalendar (Google DeskTop) for the a non-integrated solution. For me to switch over, it would have to have more meaningful functionality than my current system. A great way to import my current and archived projects would be great. With the D3 GTD System I have made Nested sliding to-do lists that would be hard to live without.

Have to say, I want to love this app, but they’ve been 43foldered to death, and it’s been next to useless for the past week. Someone didn’t plan for success, and I’m tired of waiting for page reloads. Maybe I’ll get back to it some day…

Neato software, but still a bit buggy - it is definitely in beta. The peeps feature in particular, is great when it works, but there were quite a few times when it simply failed to recognize a valid peep.

Still, I’d be very interested in checking back once they’ve ironed out all the kinks. Having Merlin on board should help with that! :)
