Vox Pop: What's your "Mac Whine?"
We’ve started a new feature over on MacBreak Weekly that I really hope becomes a regular thing: “_Mac Whines_!”
Yeah, sure, I’m an unapologetic Apple fanboy (I, mean duh), but some stuff about my Mac experience makes me crazy. Have you got a beef with your Mac or OS X you want to shout from the shiny counter of the “Genius” Bar? Yeah, me too.
I’ll open with:
- inexplicable iCal “snooze” options (per MBW 30 – which, incidentally, may also be my favorite MacBreak Weekly to date)
- near-hangs whenever a mounted network volume is no longer available
- no way to (temporarily) enable password-free user switching
- The Finder. The goddamned Finder.

1) Spotlight replaced the “Was Working Just Fine, Thank You!” Find command. Now I have to jump through all kinds of hoops to find that “Letter from Steve Jobs” file I created last year and filed it away in some distant, nested folder somewhere. If I use spotlight it lists all the other files and emails in which I’ve bragged about my letter from steve jobs.
2) I know Merlin uses a laptop a lot and I wonder if others might, as I do, use there lap top on a Griffin iCurve stand with an external extended keyboard. I HAVE to have a 10-key pad on my keyboard during the day. It would be nice to have an aluminum keyboard that matches the great looks of the Mac Book Pro or Powerbook G4. All I’ve found are windows keyboards. Seems the command key mapping would be wrong.
Those two things fixed would make my day!
