Kubuntu's Kicker: Quick access to addressbook info applet

If you're using Kubuntu Edgy, as I am, I highly suggest downloading the kicker applet for KAddressBook. Either play around with the package installer, or hit the root shell with apt-get install kicker-contactsmenu. Then right-click on your Kicker dock, and install the cute blue phone. Quicker access then opening your entire pim, simply when you need to jog your memory re: someone's phone number, etc.

The link above lists all of its dependencies, etc., which you most likely have installed.

Thanks for the post. I'm glad to see some interest in productivity stuff on Unix. I'm assuming this applet is available for KDE anywhere, and not just KUbuntu, right?

Yep--here's Kicker's KDE CVS:

http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/3.5/kdebase/kicker http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/3.4/kdebase/kicker

It's in the kdebase package.

You can also snag it from Debian:

http://packages.debian.org/stable/kde/kicker http://packages.debian.org/stable/kde/kicker-applets

However, I'm not explicitly finding that applet gnusolaris.org.

If you have any problems finding/installing it on your distro, let me know, and I'll poke about, see what I can do.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
