Handling notes and Project Reference materials

Hi, Looking for recommendations on how to manage short notes, lists and project reference materials using a Mac. I'm in the second week of using KGTD and Quicksilver to manage my Projects and action list, but I can see that I need a better way of keeping up with my reference materials and lists. Been looking at DevonThink, Voodoopad and just dumping things into text files using Quicksilver append. I gotta say my head's getting ready to explode trying to figure out how everything fits together and reading on the topic on various forums. Love the spontaneous ability to add things to KGTD and append to files in Quicksilver and I can't quite see that in DevonThink. Plus I am not to excited about spending a lot of time setting up in a proprietary system. I had been tracking everything on my work Windows system and using a Palm, but that had not been working too well for projects outside of work. After using KGTD, I have too say it is not working as well for work projects too, but that is the subject of another topic. 3 Comments

I'm currently using two different programs for managing information. As a web designer I have to have quick access to client's log-in info: URL's, passwords and usernames. Stickybrain does a great job of handling such short bits of information. It is also good for storing product registration strings, and can be made reasonably secure. It has a contextual menu plugin that allows me to send snippets to a predefined directory with a simple right mouse click. It also has an option that lets me access notes by clicking on a little flashlight icon in my menu bar, making quick retrieval a snap. I don't use it in sticky mode as I hate having my screen cluttered, but for temporary notes, I imagine it could be useful. Stickybrain also syncs with my Palm, making it good for portable notes. It isn't a heavyweight data manager, but as it evolved from a upscale post-it note program, it was never intended to be. I use DEVONthink for that. » POSTED IN:
