Recommendations for External Drive Enclosure

I've been setting up a backup regime similar to this one, involving nightly Anyway, I picked up a couple of WD2500JS drives (which System Profiler says is what is in my iMac) and a couple of super-cheap KingWin drive enclosures. The problem I'm running into is that the external drive never goes to sleep (a really good way to wear out the backup drive before the primary one is to keep it spinning 24/7/365). So I'm looking for a good external 3.5" SATA drive enclosure that will go to sleep when my Mac does. 2 Comments

I picked up a MacAlly S350US at the local Apple reseller. It's a SATA 3.5" enclosure with eSATA and USB2 interfaces. And it goes to sleep when idle. I'm still using the cheap one (KingWin) for my off-site backups. » POSTED IN:
