Laptop Inventory Program

I am a technology director at a school district in Texas. We are purchasing 240 macbooks for our students/teachers to check out at the beginning of the school year and return at the end.

Does anyone know of good OS X software that will help me inventory, help desk, and check out/in?

Thanks, Stuart

A mixture of OS X and Web apps

Stuart, I work in higher ed and have been working on a new web-based help desk application, www.schooldude.com. They are very reasonable in price (based on full time enrolls) and have great support. They also have an inventory management section that can be added for an additional fee. As for inventory/check-in & check-out, Delicious Library may meet your needs, specifically if you can put a barcode on each laptop.

Just a few ideas.

if you have at least one Windows computer

Try out Spiceworks - it does a great job with our Macs as well as our PC’s, and has a useful helpdesk built in. While they require a Windows computer for installation, you could always use Parallels to run a vm to install it on. Once installed, you can access it from a browser on one if your Macs if you would prefer. You can’t beat the price - free…
