If you're in a soul-sucking marriage with your laptop, you're not alone. Last week, I confessed the details of an embarrassingly codependent relationship with my laptop. In desperation, I begged you, fellow 43 Folders readers, to share your experiences and tips for breaking up with a laptop. I've been without my laptop for nearly two weeks while it was being repaired off-site. I installed the free PortableApps onto my 2GB flash drive and have been liberated. This suite includes Open Office versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and more. It also includes Firefox and Thunderbird. All your bookmarks and other personal settings (and documents) are stored on the flash drive and it can be used on any Windows-based computer. After having been addicted to my laptop, I now see how productive I can be without it and may leave the laptop behind once it is repair. There are so many available Windows machines where I work, that the flash drive is just as functional and way more portable than my laptop. » POSTED IN:
