Our Most Popular Postsminor issue - account settings link?Mike J. | Sep 26 2007Merlin and web dudes, the new site ROCKS! But... As a longtime reader, first-time registered user here, I've yet to find a consistent link to the user account settings. You could usually get to it by clicking on your name in the Online Users section on the right. However I've noticed my username doesn't consistently show up there every time. For some reason I keep looking for an Account link in the upper right of the page near the Username | Log out section. Not sure if this is just something Drupal's missing or what. Bug? Missing feature? You decide. read more »POSTED IN:

Converting Mail.app Smart Mailbox to MailboxJames | Sep 30 2007Hi all Is there any way to convert a Smart Mailbox to a regular Mailbox using Mail.app? I'm using Smart Mailboxes to collate all relevant emails for each project. However when the project is complete I want to put the project's Smart Mailbox into a Completed folder, however I can't drop SM's into a folder. Is there a work around for this? I guess the essence of GTD is deleting all emails that have been dealt with/completed, I'm just not ready to let go yet!! POSTED IN:
What to Do With Old (Digital) FilesJamie Phelps | Jan 23 2008This is a pretty simple question, and I have a couple of ideas, but I wanted to ping you all to see what you're up to on this front. My main documents folder (~/Documents/trunk for those of you scoring at home) is up to about 5.5GB. A lot of this is cruft. Some of it is from prior school semesters. Some of it is graphics files that aren't actively being used. Some of it is client work. (This should be moving to Subversion soon, however.) I'm sure some of it is even duplicate work. For instance, flat .jpg copies of a Fireworks PNG or Photoshop PSD. read more »POSTED IN:

Vitalist pingR. Emory Lundberg | Jan 25 2008Is anyone using Vitalist these days? I have started playing with it, mainly because it works well on my mobile phone(s) and my N810 tablet. There are some deficiencies so I haven't thrown out my index cards yet, but it is quite good. POSTED IN:
Effective Standing OrdersRúnar Óli Bjarnason | Jan 30 2008I thought 43f readers might enjoy this. Diana Hsieh on making it hard to ignore your orders to yourself. Good point about not needing a reminder when there's already a natural prompt to think about the thing in question. http://www.objectivismonline.net/archives/003230.html POSTED IN:
Merlin - Separated at birth from twin?Joe Ross | Apr 29 2008I was watching E! News last night (my wife was controlling the remote control, honest!) and saw Merlin's doppleganger, who is a correspondent for that show. Is it just me? Am I crazy, or do Merlin Mann and Marc Malkin look related in some way? Maybe it is just the glasses...and the initials! Too coincidental to be happenstance... POSTED IN:
Email Has Replaced The TelephoneAnonymous | Nov 30 2007It's almost 2008 and the fact is: email has replaced the phone. Email is the number one business tool. Why do I say this? Our company email server exchange is down and our business is almost paralyzed, (at least for the next few minutes.) Have you noticed that most of us would rather send an email then pick up the phone? Calling someone takes effort: you have be "on" so to speak. You have to be polite and use the right tone and more importantly you have to think in real time rather than composing your thoughts and typing away. Thinking on your feet is way too hard. read more »POSTED IN:
