Life as Roleplaying Game: beyond metaphor

UPDATED.

The purpose of those post is to start a discussion on viewing self-betterment/productivity hacking/etc as a role-playing-game-like character advancement process. I have read some places of this idea as a compelling metaphor, but I am considering the value of moving it beyond metaphor, to the point that I am literally creating a "character class" for myself and designing a character sheet, etc.

Mac Mail.app: keyboard "move" folder select?

Hello. On PINE (my old mail program) I could file mail quickly; "s foldername" would file the current message into foldername. (I could even tab-complete!) I would LOVE to be able to do that on Mail.app: a keyboard-only way to file messages. Does anyone know of any way to do that?

(Looked on Versiontracker, googled it; I found nothin'.)

becoming a GTD coach

I've been learning and using GTD for almost two years now. Thanks to Merlin and 43folders I never fell off the wagon! Now I find myself with less stress, less wondering what I should do next, and more productivity. I'm also at a point where I can sort of do whatever I want, which is really nice. Becoming a GTD person isn't without it's problems. Mainly, it's frustrating working with people who aren't working productively. That's why I've been considering a slight change in career (or at least adding to my current career)- I'd like to teach others how to GTD!

To Do List option for the iPhone

One of the complaints about the iPhone is that there is no way to create a to do list. While I don't have a perfect solution, I do have an idea that can get you started.

Here's the how-to using iWeb:

1) Create a New Page using the pull down menu or the handy + button at the bottom. From the template of your choice, select the blog.

Switch to OpenOffice? Pros and cons?

In Pakistan, bootleg copies of software are the norm. When you buy a computer, if you tell the people who are setting it up that you want genuine software, they look at you like you're crazy. So you go buy a computer, tell the tech support guy what software you want on it, and take it for granted that practically none of it will be legally yours.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
