iGTD, OmniFocus, Inbox and Things very briefly compared

A brief outline of my experiences so far:

OmniFocus and iGTD

  • extremely similar appearance and workflow
  • work well
  • very quick to enter info
  • both somewhat sloppy with the GTD model
  • neither provides a proper Waiting For list

Midnight Inbox

  • looks great - brilliant in fact
  • has a somewhat in-your-face attitude towards GTD
  • seems quite rigid, which may be a good thing or not
  • some interface weirdness
  • I found it slow to use, because it is often not clear how to do something

Someday, Maybe Never- project or context?

I recently moved a load of actions from a project (things to write about in my tech blog) [1] into my Someday, Maybe Never project, and then it suddenly struck me that maybe it wasn't a project at all, but a context. It makes sense if you think about it from the Contexts view - when you're executing, you just look at the context you're in at the time (calls, errands etc) and because you've never given one of your active contexts to the actions, you never see them in your current context context.

iTunes Plus, DRM-free tracks, arrive on iTunes Store

iTunes Plus (iTunes link)

iTunes Plus now available

For help getting set up with "iTunes Plus" (giving you access to buying/upgrading EMI's DRM-free tracks), don't miss this handy helper from MacUser.

The DRM-free features are being billed as “iTunes Plus”: in order to turn it on, you have to click on your account name in the top right corner of the iTunes store. You’ll be prompted for your password, and then brought to the account information page. The top button on that page now reads “Manage iTunes Plus.” Clicking on that will let you choose whether or not iTunes will show you DRM-free tracks when available. Click the checkbox and hit “Save Changes” and you’re ready to rock.

Inexpensive "Shirt Pocket Briefcase" alternative

Staples has a leather(ette?) "shirt pocket briefcase" that isn't a Levenger SBP, but it is close enough for people that are on a tighter budget. It is a very clear knock-off of the original, but that may be a good thing for that price bracket.

They don't have one in Balistic nylon either. Boo! Mine is fraying a bit and I'm afraid I'll have to move to the slip-and-slide leather model.

But at Staples under their "M" line or whatever, there was a display at the front of the store when I went. I don't remember the price but it was low double-digits.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
