Our Most Popular PostsMake #4 now availableMerlin Mann | Oct 20 2005MAKE: Technology on Your Time, Volume 04 O'Reilly's quarterly Make Magazine Volume #4 is now available for order from Amazon.com. As ever it will be filled with new ways to turn your doorbell into a death laser or make a functional hovercraft from a Mr. Coffee or even remove the DRM from a six-pack of Mr. Pibb. It's all in there, along with the usual "Life Hacks" column from Danny and me. This month's column features our long-anticipated showdown/throwdown on digital vs. paper. Make your security answer a little weirderMerlin Mann | Sep 5 2004Most sites requiring registration ask you to choose a “secret question” to which only you supposedly know the answer. Of course, in the age of Google, the city where you were born and your mother’s maiden name may no longer be the best kept secrets in the world. Unclutterer: Get your shred onMerlin Mann | May 7 2007Unclutterer: Paper clutter begone, part 4 Handy tips on what to shred and when.

If you buy purely on price (picking up one of those drug store models that's the size of a guest bathroom's wastebasket), you'll regret it immediately. Treat yourself to a multi-page monster that can gobble CDs and staples, and you're much more likely to use it in a regular and timely manner -- as in every day, when you pick up that pile of credit card applications with your info all over them. As suggested, I second the motion to shred that crap the second it arrives. POSTED IN:
