Address book, ipod touch and groups

I've just acquired an iPod touch and I'm in love.

One small issue, though. I've added a bundle of addresses in the past few weeks using the touch, but only yesterday did I realise that they could be placed in groups if you were IN the group already when you started adding the new entry. So there's a whole load of ungrouped entries in my (frighteningly big) address book.

The logical thing would be to make a smart group for stuff that, say, isn't in a dumb group. But I couldn't see a smart group option for that. Any bright ideas?

A Tale of Disk Crashing Woe, and the Utilities That Saved Me

Apologies if I'm a little cranky, but I've suffered two hard drive crashes in as many weeks, and while I was able to recover somewhat gracefully, the aggravation of watching plodding status bars for hours on end while I wait for my data to load has been unbearable. Fortunately, my wife has employed Bobby Knight-proof safety features in our home office and chained everything to the desk, or else I would have chucked it all out the window.

Finally... a Finder replacement even I can love!

http://www.ironicsoftware.com/leap/index.html

Wow... trust me, just stop what you are doing, download the Leap Beta and spend 15 minutes playing around. Not sure what the performance will be on older machines, but it works great on the MBP 2.2GHz with 2GB of RAM. With apps like this, Leopard's new Finder seems less necessary than it did before.

Tagging, a better Get Info that shows all metadata, Spotlight integration, great options in the right-click menu, etc....

Enjoy!

USA Today: Smart CEOs watch how you treat the staff

USATODAY.com - CEOs say how you treat a waiter can predict a lot about character

I was a busboy in junior high and high school and a waiter in college, and I hardily concur that the behavior of a restaurant patron can unintentionally reveal loads about their character.

Interesting 43F Stats

Talking blog stats is dull, tacky stuff, so I usually avoid it like the plague. But here’s a couple data points you might find interesting.

iPhone / iPod touch smart playlists

I would like to poll the masses on how to create really smart playlists in iTunes for use on flash-memory based iPods. How can you set up the playlist so that you select songs from your library and replace them upon syncing after listening to a given track. Making the smart playlists is easy- however I can't get the songs to replace upon syncing.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
