Can anyone explain how they relate Next Actions per project? It's a little confusing in the book.

Justifying Mac purchase to company?

I have a friend who is a prof at a uni. She wants to use part of her budget to purchase a new laptop for work and prefers a Mac. The uni has a contract with IBM and would prefer her to buy a winbox. They told her she can "opt out" and purchase a Mac as long as she can justify the purchase. Can the 43f HiveMind give us some ideas on how she can justify the Macbook? She is a sociologist if that helps get your creative juices flowing.

Tagging Text in a Document (OS X)

I am looking for a method to tag portions of text in a MS word document.

I am a law student, and I do a copicious amount of research and note taking. While I have a format to most of my notes and outlines, it would be a boon if I could tag sections of notes within the document. Thus I could later search for not only a keyword but a topic. This would help ID aspects of the topic that are not best expressed in the the major point heading.

If an example helps please see my post at macworld forums: http://forums.macworld.com/thread/98042?tstart=0

OmniOutliner: Spacebar for mouseless dropdown selection

Speaking of R'ing TFM, OmniGroup's crackerjack techs responded almost immediately to my recent "feature request" that I be able to select items from OmniOutliner dropdown menus without using the mouse.

Already there. Just hit spacebar and start typing the first few letters of the item you want, and there you go. Personally I've set my TAB action to "Go to next cell" (rather than the default "Indent") so my OO efficiency just ticked up several notches with this one.

In other news, the new unofficial motto of 43 Folders is going to be “The only truly obvious things are those things that you already know. (And, regrettably, not everyone is you yet.)”

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
