Using Eastgate's Tinderbox for GTD implementationMerlin Mann | Sep 5 2004Tinderbox Wiki: GettingThingsDone I haven’t kept up much with its recent development, but I know Tinderbox has been a terrific, versatile application that’s just about perfect for GTD implementation in many ways. Bit of a steep learning curve, but a lot of folks says it’s worth it. I’ve certainly enjoyed tinkering with it in the past, and I still find it very satisfying as a mind-mapping tool and occasional IA app. read more »POSTED IN:

Purging info-poor entries from Address BookMerlin Mann | Aug 20 2007You may share my Address Book pollution problem — having too many orphaned names that got scribbled on a PDA or were manually added but never fleshed out (like: 10 years ago!). Here’s a really stupidly useful Smart Group for Address Book that helps identify entries without any real information attached to them. POSTED IN:
Converting 'waiting on' itemsMerlin Mann | May 16 2005I’m curious about how GTD fans handle their “waiting on” items. I’ve decided to try something a bit different in my own setup, and I’m wondering if others have done something similar with any success. read more »POSTED IN:
Macworld Expo '08: Merlin visits with Panic, Agile Web Solutions, and James from New JerseyMerlin Mann | Jan 20 2008Macworld Expo wouldn't be the same for me if I didn't have the chance to hit the floor and talk to the kids for MacBreak. This year, I returned to Tiny Town to talk to my new internet boyfriends, Cabel and Steven, at Panic, Dave Teare from my beloved 1Password, as well as the charming James from New Jersey who says he doesn't want to punch Steve Jobs, no matter what. rooSwitch for easy, restorable application profilesMerlin Mann | Jul 31 2007rooSwitch - Shuffle Your Settings Around When you're testing a new version of an application (or just being a little paranoid), it can be a pain to deal with protecting your "real" data from being corrupted or overwritten. While something like SuperDuper is priceless for backing up a drive to a disk image, you want something that's not only lighter in weight, but that is smart enough to deal just with the settings associated with a single program. That's where roobaSoft's rooSwitch comes in. rooSwitch's smarts come in being able to recognize which Preferences, Application Support folders, and related files belong to an app's settings (but, not -- it should be noted -- its documents), so that you can then backup, switch, and restore a group of settings whenever you need to. This can be quite a lifesaver. read more »POSTED IN:
kGTD tutorials: Projects and actions, Timed actionsMerlin Mann | Sep 26 200643F Wiki user ThePolack has been putting together some great kGTD tutorials, including a useful introduction to using the Projects and Actions sections that covers several of the features that most folks only figure out after a few weeks of regular usage. Handy. But, I want to especially highlight his tutorial on using timed and dated actions in kGTD. These are powerful features that have caused considerable confusion for users, and ThePolack provides a lucid explanation of how the different events work and how you can use them to manage all those little periodic tasks that pop up in your life. read more »POSTED IN:
